Captains Log, Stardate... uhh....

I picked the word monotony. Lets go ahead and give the definition for no apparent reason. “wearisome uniformity or lack of variety, as in occupation or scenery.”. That is what monotony is As you can see I presented you with a picture of the wall above my desk in my room. Well, it is pretty boring, my wall is a very light gray color. That is all that I stare at when I get bored of doing my homework. That blank wall above my monitor.

I realize that we have two projects to present, but mine just ended up blending together. Sometimes I don’t know where certain projects start and others end. So I just said what the hell and ran with it. For some reason I wanted to take the people who I was researching and impose their faces on my wall. Well, I don’t think I have time to actually do something like this, nor would I think it would last long as these people are pretty ugly. So I decided to load up my good friend Photoshop.

I found pictures of my book report people: D.R. Hofstadter, J.W. Dunne, Celia Green, and Car G. Jung. All of these people are from pages 67 of this big book we were told to buy. They deal with dreams and different sorts of dreams. I somehow came to the conclusion this related to my monotony, mainly because of this line: “An expert reckons that people who use their visual imagination during the day – artists, designers, architects, photographers, film director and the like – rarely have spectacular mind-blowing Technicolor dreams. These, paradoxically, tend to be bestowed on those whose daily work is more predictably routine.” I figure most of the dreams I have been having lately are really bland and they never have color, just shape.

Well after imposing these faces on a picture of my wall, I thought it just wasn’t what I was looking for. The pictures were all different sizes and some were “expanded” to fit and were pixilated. (This also relates to what we talked about last week up on the roof, so I guess this is three projects in one.) After fiddling with the location I took out my tablet and decided I would trace the facial features and outlines of these characters. Then I removed the actual pictures and it was still not quite correct. I thought about relaying a color wheel behind them to give them color. But with four characters and only three colors in a RGB chart it just wasn’t working. But then I thought what if I just used a CMYK chart? It is four colors and also a color wheel. So using the four primary colors from CMYK I loosely colored them in with an overlay blend and I found my picture.

This is the completion of my work, with I think nice colors and dealing with my chosen people and their image.

Connections

Connections are all around. My connection was not so much of a connection, but a lack of being able to break one. I must have sat down to do this assignment four or five different times and I just could not do it. It has part to do with my personality sometimes. When I start a new game I just have to keep going and finishing it. Usually something else distracting me just pisses me off, and this is especially tough when the thing I am supposed to be finishing is homework. So instead of doing my assignment, I failed to break my connection to my game and did not complete it. Hell it took me a week after it was due to even get this far. So breaking connections is my form of connections.

Pass or fail?

We live in a world where there are no grades. There is just pass and fail. You aren't going to get a B or C from someone who is giving you money, he is either going to give you money or tell you to get lost. So I award the grade letter P to Allyssa. Pass. She was the only one who presented who presented with an electronic device. That being her iPhone. Her project was done with sticks and and other pieces of nature. She could have presented it to us on the paper, but instead she chose to just take a picture and pass her phone around to show everyone. Good job.

Upstairs

What we did upstairs in the media room was fun. Getting to roam around the school with a few people and come up with some crazy ideas really shows how much you can come up with when you start with nothing. Our word was worlds, and for the first half hour or so we really struggled to come up with ideas. We ended up just kind of giving up on the idea for a bit and messing around. We eventually ended up with a bunch of balls of different sections of newspapers and starting making shapes out of them. Originally it started out as a galaxy formation and just sort of ended up as a person while we were joking around. After making a person we moved the different sections around to form different parts of the body. It actually turned out quite well.

Some of the other people came up with some pretty nifty ideas of their own. I would say this was a fun little project. Getting to see what other people come up with, with basically nothing to start out with. It really helps you see and learn how other people think, which can help down the road when you need to get creative. If something that I do doesn't help, jumping in their shoes and trying something new can work.

My Onion assignment will take place next week and pictures will follow.

Midterm

1. What has been the single best aspect of this class thus far?

I would say just sitting around and talking about the most random things. It might sound weird but I get my best ideas when not even thinking about what I am supposed to be doing. Also during these conversations since it does not require book thinking or research, you can doodle while conversing and sometimes come up with some really cool ideas relating to anther class or portfolio. It really shows you that you have to get away from your project sometimes in order to really complete it. You can't force creativity.

2. What is the single most important thing you want to walk away with from this class?

I really don't know. I guess what I already learned.

Wut?¿

Well considering it is hot in here even though its only 60 degrees outside. I asked myself what if restaurants were on fire. Do you think customers would tip well if they were inside of a hot and sticky environment? I think it would be sweet sweet anarchy. People would get pissed even if it took a few minutes for someone to bring them their food or just take their orders. When people get hot, they do not like to be bothered because they are annoyed. The littlest things would be magnified and utter chaos of pissed off customers along with employees who hate the customers would collide. Bus boys would use table trays as shields while throwing knives and forks at the customers. The customers would tip over tables and use them as defenses against the knives and forks. Then they would return fire with their own silverware, although they do have limited ammo. Then the charge would begin with table trays clashing against the bare fists of the customers in the brawl of the ages. The chefs would bring up the flank with culinary torches to end the entrenched customers cover.

Where am I?
